Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Overcoming Biases, Appreciating Different Cultures and Values

Most practices and hospitals are working hard to embrace the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). Promoting DE&I culture in a medical setting is often harder than it seems. Physicians will learn about how DE&I can help lead to optimal health and medical treatment for all patients; promote appreciation of colleagues and medical staff; bring out the ideas and talents from staff who may be overlooked, and avoid one's own unrecognized bias that could impair working relationships. This course will cover:

  • What the terms diversity, equity, and inclusion actually mean, and the benefits of promoting DE&I in a medical practice;
  • Types of unrecognized bias — explicit, implicit, and perception bias — and how these biases affect healthcare;
  • How to promote DE&I in your organization, and the key elements that training should encompass;
  • The importance of DE&I in patient care; and
  • Dealing with resistance to DE&I from colleagues and staff.
